Kubo and the Two Strings is an upcoming American 3D stop-motion fantasy action adventure film produced by Laika for Focus Features. It is being directed by Travis Knight and written by Marc Haimes and Chris Butler. The film stars Charlize Theron, Art Parkinson, Ralph Fiennes, Rooney Mara, George Takei and Matthew McConaughey. The film is scheduled to be released on August 19, 2016.

The story is set in ancient Japan, where a young boy named Kubo cares for his sick mother in a village. A spirit from the past turns Kubo's life upside down by re-igniting an age-old vendetta. This causes all sorts of havoc as gods and monsters chase Kubo who, in order to survive, must locate a magical suit of armor once worn by his late father, a legendary Samurai warrior.

Cast[edit] Charlize Theron as Monkey Art Parkinson as Kubo Ralph Fiennes as Raiden the Moon King Rooney Mara as the Sisters George Takei as Hosato Matthew McConaughey as Beetle Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa as Akihiro Brenda Vaccaro as Kameyo Production[edit] On December 22, 2014, Laika and Focus Features announced that the production began on a 3D stop-motion animated film Kubo and the Two Strings, which Laika's CEO Travis Knight would make his directorial debut, based on an original story by Shannon Tindle and written by Marc Haimes and Chris Butler.[1] Knight and Arianne Sutner would produce the film.[1] Voice casting included Art Parkinson, Matthew McConaughey, Charlize Theron, Rooney Mara and Ralph Fiennes.[2] It was also revealed George Takei, Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, and Brenda Vaccaro had also joined the voice cast.[3] Dario Marianelli composed the score for the film.[4]

Release[edit] The film had its world premiere at the Jerusalem Film Festival on July 8, 2016.[5] It will also screen at the Melbourne International Film Festival on August 13, 2016.[6] The film is set to be released on August 19, 2016.[2]
